Endocrinologists
An endocrinologist is a doctor who deals with problems in the endocrine system, whose function is to produce hormones and maintain their balance in the body. An endocrinologist helps to adjust the body’s work by selecting special hormonal drugs.
In most cases, the patient receives a referral for consultation from a gynecologist or therapist, at the Federal State Budgetary Institution “NMIC Radiology” of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, you can make an appointment with an endocrinologist through a call center or feedback form.
At the reception, the endocrinologist conducts a survey, collects anamnesis, examines the skin and palpates the thyroid gland (due to the peculiarities of the anatomical structure, the thyroid gland is close to the skin and its changes are easy to diagnose). If the doctor does not have enough information, he can give recommendations to undergo additional diagnostic or laboratory examinations.
The endocrinologist uses modern diagnostic methods for diagnosis, including:
- ultrasound examination;
- magnetic resonance imaging;
- puncture biopsy of the thyroid gland.
Based on the results of research and admission, an endocrinologist establishes a diagnosis and prepares a treatment plan. The treatment program includes hormone therapy and a dietary diet. Sometimes, to solve the problem, an endocrinologist can refer you to surgical treatment.
The main symptoms that force you to make an appointment with an endocrinologist are:
- violation of the water balance (thirst, dry mouth, frequent urge to urinate, etc.);
- noticeable enlargement of the neck;
- manifestation of menopause symptoms;
- irregularity of the menstrual cycle;
- the appearance of severe sweating;
- hair loss or their obvious appearance;
- hand trembling;
- skin rashes.
Consultations with an endocrinologist are mandatory during pregnancy or planning, as well as for people who are diagnosed with:
- diabetes mellitus;
- androgen deficiency;
- thyroid and adrenal gland diseases;
- osteoporosis;
- hyperthyroidism;
- acromegaly;
tumor diseases of the pituitary gland.
An endocrinologist is a narrow specialist, whose visit is not included in the program of preventive examinations, but regular checking of the endocrine system allows you to prevent the appearance of serious diseases (for example, diabetes mellitus) or start treatment at an early stage of the disease.
For many girls and women, visiting an endocrinologist can solve most uncomfortable health problems, as well as choose the right hormone therapy.
