Epidemiologists
Epidemiologist is a physician who studies diseases, investigates their occurrence and spread, and develops methods of prevention and treatment. An epidemiologist studies a disease and identifies the cause of its occurrence, develops a possible treatment plan, and monitors the effect of a drug on the causative agents of the disease.
The doctor epidemiologist is associated not only with infectious and viral diseases, but also with cancer, as well as diseases of the blood and immune system, pathologies of body systems, genetic anomalies, etc.
Epidemiology deals with the study of the spread of disease in a certain territory, so the epidemiologist on the basis of the FSBI “National Medical Research Radiological Centre” (NMRRC) of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation is engaged in creating a healthy environment for the center’s employees and patients. The work of the specialist includes:
- control of the epidemiologic situation;
- drawing up a vaccination program for the staff;
- control of Sanitary Regulations and Norms;
- studying the spread of epidemiologic diseases.
Also, the epidemiologist works in the laboratory, contacts with other doctors, maintains documentation, conducts security and supervisory activities, if necessary, consults and conducts patient appointments.
An epidemiologist sees patients by appointment after a referral from the attending physician or other specialists who have a suspicion of an infectious, viral or parasitic disease. At the consultation, the epidemiologist collects an anamnesis, conducts an examination and gives a referral for blood and urine, saliva, feces. If necessary, the patient is referred to additional diagnostics. After diagnosis, the doctor prescribes treatment, most often medication, and monitors the effect of drugs on the development of the disease.
