The Center has a high scientific potential. The main directions of the Center’s work are:

  • development of methods for early detection of tumors of various organs and systems, clarification of the degree of spread of the tumor process and differential diagnosis;
  • development of new organ-preserving and functionally sparing methods of surgical treatment;
  • improvement of combined and complex treatment;
  • creation of new dosage forms of prolonged-acting antitumor drugs and detoxification therapy drugs;
  • medical and social and labor rehabilitation of patients with malignant tumors after radical treatment;
  • radiation and radioisotope diagnostics – high-tech methods of medical imaging aimed at timely detection of tumor pathology, assessment of its prevalence and control after treatment.

The center has trained many scientists who are engaged in fundamental developments and their application in practice, creating new antitumor drugs in the treatment of cancer.

Since 2014, various scientific conferences have been held on the basis of the Center. National Medical Research Radiological Centre (NMRRC) of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation also provides various educational services in the field of medicine.


Over the past few years, the NMRRC) of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation has developed and, in cooperation with the Federal Medical and Biological Agency of the Russian Federation, passed preclinical tests of the radiopharmaceutical “MCA 5-10 μm, Re-188”, which is even more advanced than the colloidal gold-based preparation – 198, which makes the method of radionuclide treatment of chronic synovitis of the knee joint (radiosynovectomy) using radiopharmaceutical (RFLP) containing radioisotope rhenium-188 (Re-188) extremely promising, both scientifically and clinically.


By the order of the Government of the Russian Federation dated October 25, 2017, a group of scientists of the National Medical Research Radiological Centre (NMRRC) of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation headed by Director General, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences A.D. Kaprin was awarded the Prize of the Government of the Russian Federation 2017 in the field of science and technology “For the development, production and implementation of domestic radio sources (Iodine-125) for contact radiation therapy (brachytherapy) in oncology”.

The first nuclear pharmacy in Russia for the synthesis of not registrated in the Russian Federation radiopharmaceuticals was set in 2021 in the National Medical Research Radiological Centre (NMRRC) of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. Synthesized radiopharmaceuticals are successfully used for effective treatment of patients with oncological and non-oncological diseases.


A CryoBank of genetic material of cancer patients was established on the basis of the A.F. Tsyb MRSC, a branch of the National Medical Center of Radiology. The Center collects sperm, ovarian tissue, oocytes, embryos, as well as cryopreservation and storage of patients’ genetic material under special conditions. In addition, the blood of sick patients and their blood relatives is collected and stored with subsequent DNA analysis for oncomutation. To date, the biobank of the Center has 2,900 samples of genetic material. After treatment, future parents can apply to the Center, where IVF procedure is performed and the future mother and baby are monitored.

The pharmacy manufactures innovative radiopharmaceuticals based on Re-188, Lu-177, Ac-255 radionuclides developed at the Centre for the treatment of metastatic prostate cancer, primary and metastatic liver cancer, metastatic skeletal lesions and knee joint chronic synovitis.

In January 2021, due to the efforts of the National Medical Research Radiological Centre team led by Academician A.D. Kaprin, Professor of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor S.A. Ivanov, and Professor M.V. Kiseleva, amendments were made to the Order of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation No. 803n “On the procedure for the use of assisted reproductive technologies, contraindications and restrictions to their use”, where for the first time on a legal basis the possibilities of cryopreservation of genetic material and preservation of fertility of cancer patients before chemo- and radiation therapy were fixed.


In 2021, a new method of breast cancer treatment – brachiotherapy – was opened at the center.
