31 Nominee Advances to the Finals of the Savitsky Prize Competition

For the fourth year in a row, the finalists for the Savitsky Prize are chosen through the votes of the Expert Council and public voting. In each category, four candidates who received the most votes from internet users advance. This year, 27 candidates in the individual categories and four teams in the “Project of the Year” competition made it to the finals.

The best oncologists of the year, who will take the stage at the IIV Forum “For Life” in September to learn the winner’s name, include representatives from the City Clinical Oncology Dispensary (St. Petersburg), the Professor G.V. Bondar Russian Oncological Center of the Ministry of Health of the DPR, and the Sakhalin and Irkutsk Regional Oncology Dispensaries. The entries in this category, as well as all others, can be viewed on the award’s website. For example, Olga Kolycheva from Donetsk submitted a study on the early detection of cardiotoxicity and the reduction of cardiovascular complications during neoadjuvant chemotherapy in patients with invasive breast cancer.

The nominees for “Surgeon of the Year” include staff from Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University (Moscow), Professor S.V. Ochapovsky Regional Clinical Hospital 1 (Krasnodar), Orenburg State Medical University, and the Orenburg Regional Clinical Oncology Dispensary. The Head and Neck Department of the Orenburg Oncology Dispensary presented a project in a completely innovative direction: scarless thyroid surgery through a vestibular approach (TOETVA). Until now, such surgeries have been extremely rare.

In the “Radiotherapist of the Year” category, representatives from St. Petersburg, Kaluga, Voronezh, and Vladivostok will compete for the title. The Far Eastern Oncology Dispensary has introduced a recently patented experimental drug in the form of a liquid bioglass gel, Bioglass 45S5, which, according to the developers, increases the effectiveness of localized tumor treatment by more than twice and reduces the number of radiotherapy sessions by half.

The best nursing specialists of 2024 work at the National Medical Research Radiological Centre (Moscow), the Samara and Orenburg Oncology Dispensaries, and the Medical Center “Medical City” (Tyumen). The main winner will be decided by the award jury, which includes the most renowned oncologists in the country.

The best young oncologist of the year will undoubtedly come from Voronezh, Moscow, Novosibirsk, or Rostov-on-Don. His or her name will be revealed at the awards ceremony.

The title of “Diagnostician of the Year” will be contested by specialists from Makhachkala, Nizhny Novgorod, Orenburg, and Chelyabinsk. Orenburg, it should be noted, has shown remarkable activity in both nominating candidates and supporting their colleagues during the voting, which is commendable and worth learning from.

In the “Project of the Year” category, teams from oncology institutions and associations with major projects that have already received support and recognition are participating. We are pleased to welcome among them the Republican Oncology Center named after G.V. Bondar (Donetsk) with their project “Oncoguard,” which is similar in many ways to our “Oncopatrol” and is aimed at comprehensive preventive oncological screening of the population of the DPR.

Another category, “Rising Star,” is specifically for participants from CIS member states. According to the contest organizers, this category will recognize oncology specialists who have already made a significant contribution to the fight against cancer in these countries. We wish our colleagues from Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kazakhstan, as well as all those vying for the title of “best” in their specialization, success in 2024!
