ANDREY KAPRIN SPOKE AT THE FUTURE TECHNOLOGIES FORUM: BIOMEDICAL SOLUTIONS FOR EXTENDING HEALTHY AGE
On 25–26 February, the Future Technologies Forum is being held at the International Trade Centre. As part of the ‘Biotechnologies for Extending Healthy Age: Trends, Developments, Implementation’ section, Andrey Kaprin, Director General of the National Medical Research Radiological Centre (NMRRC) of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, Chief Oncologist of the Russian Ministry of Health, spoke about modern biomedical technologies in oncology.
According to the academician, today it is the genetic “portrait” of the tumor that forms the basis for selecting therapy and developing personalized treatment approaches, aided by modern molecular-genetic research technologies. These technologies identify hereditary predispositions to various types of cancer, helping to design an appropriate system of age-related screenings. Andrey Dmitrievich also spoke about the domestic whole-genome sequencing platform “Ariadna” developed at the NMRRC, which is used for bioinformatic processing of genomic data. Based on these technologies, the development of personalized mRNA vaccines for the treatment of specific forms of cancer becomes possible. It is emphasized that this refers specifically to a therapeutic, not a preventive, strategy, which is applied in addition to standard therapy.
The session, moderated by Galina Karelova, Chair of the Eurasian Women’s Forum Council at the Federation Council, featured leading experts in preventive medicine and biology of ageing. The discussion focused on the practical implementation of biotechnologies and the development of responsible regulatory mechanisms in the context of demographic challenges.
