BREAKTHROUGH TECHNOLOGIES IN THE TREATMENT OF THORACOABDOMINAL TUMORS FROM NMRRC EXPERTS
Another scientific and practical online conference «Current Issues in the Treatment of Thoracoabdominal Tumors», featuring live surgery broadcasts, expert discussions, and clinical case reviews, took place last Tuesday.
The conference program included a master class on video-assisted thoracoscopic lobectomy, performed by surgeons from the Thoracoabdominal Surgery Department of the P. Hertsen Moscow Oncology Research Institute. This procedure was streamed live on a specialized online platform. The teleconference gathered surgeons, oncologists, thoracic surgeons, oncocoloproctologists, coloproctologists, and healthcare administrators from various regions of Russia, from Kaliningrad to Kamchatka.
The scientific session featured a large team of leading specialists in thoracoabdominal surgery from the Center: Vladimir Trifanov, Leonid Petrov, Vitaly Barmin, Grigory Afonin, and Evgeny Smolenov. Additionally, renowned colleagues from top Moscow clinics presented their reports: Ilya Chernikovsky and Dr. Sergey Efetov from Sechenov University Clinical Hospital, as well as Artem Goncharov from the Central Clinical Hospital of the Administrative Directorate of the President. The conference was moderated by Yuri Samsonov, Executive Director of the Association of Healthcare Administrators in Oncology.
The participants were welcomed by Andrey Ryabov, Professor and Deputy General Director for Surgery at the National Medical Research Radiological Centre of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. He emphasized the importance of mastering innovative techniques for treating malignant tumors in the thoracoabdominal region and highlighted the shift towards organ-preserving and minimally invasive procedures:
“Laparoscopic surgeries require surgeons to acquire new skills and knowledge, but they significantly ease the recovery process for both medical staff and patients, allowing them to return to their normal lives faster. The desire to remain active and socially engaged is natural for everyone, and modern oncology is committed to fulfilling this need.”
It is worth noting that the online format of conferences and master classes, regularly organized by the NMRRC team under the leadership of the Chief Oncologist of the Russian Ministry of Health, Academician of Russian Academy of Science Andrey Kaprin, provides specialists across the country with access to the latest advancements in domestic surgical oncology.
