A team of surgeons led by Leonid Petrov performed a complex surgical operation to remove a common tumor process of the peritoneum.
A 71-year-old resident of the Kaluga Region was diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer. According to the results of diagnostic laparoscopy performed at the MRSC named after A.F. Tsyba, the presence of lesions of the ovaries, pelvic peritoneum and diaphragm, liver capsules was established. In this situation, it is possible to carry out systemic chemotherapy or perform a volumetric surgical intervention aimed at removing all visible tumor foci with intra-abdominal and further systemic chemotherapy. Previous studies have proven the advantage of the second approach.
A team of surgeons led by the head of the Department of radiation and surgical treatment of abdominal diseases, PhD Leonid Petrov performed a cytoreductive operation lasting about 5 hours. Surgical treatment was accompanied by removal of the uterus with appendages, the entire parietal peritoneum, large omentum, spleen, right half of the colon, gallbladder and part of the liver. Intraperitoneal chemotherapy with cisplatin was performed in the postoperative period.
The course of the early postoperative period is smooth. In the future, the patient is scheduled to undergo systemic chemotherapy under the conditions of the A.F. Tsyba MRSC.
Thus, the competence of the team of the A.F. Tsyba MRSC – a branch of the FSBI “NMIC of Radiology” of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation allows to implement the entire complex of therapeutic and diagnostic measures in patients with peritoneal tumor lesions “in one hand”, which allows us to count on improving the results of treatment of this severe and heterogeneous group of patients.
