A team of resuscitators led by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Alexander Potapov rescued a patient from the Lipetsk region
A 35–year-old resident of the Lipetsk region in an extremely serious condition independently sought medical help at the MRSC named after A.F. Tsyba. He complained of acute pains in his heart, he had difficulty breathing with an extremely rapid heartbeat.
In March of this year, he underwent surgical treatment at the P.A. Herzen Moscow State Medical Institute to remove a tumor of the anterior mediastinum and in June he was scheduled for chemotherapy treatment. However, the patient’s health condition deteriorated sharply due to heart pain and difficulty breathing.
A team of resuscitators promptly diagnosed pericardial tamponade. In cardiology, pericardial tamponade is a dangerous complication that leads to severe disorders of central hemodynamics, metabolic and microcirculatory disorders that contribute to the development of acute heart failure, shock and cardiac arrest. According to Professor A. Potapov, doctors evacuated almost a liter of fluid from the pericardium of the patient’s heart. For an hour, the intensive care team fought for the patient’s life. He underwent pericardial drainage, electrical cardioversion and restored the correct heart rhythm, thereby saving the patient’s life.
He is currently undergoing routine chemotherapy treatment at the A.F. Tsyba MRSC.
