“BUILDING ON TRADITIONS, YOU MOVE FORWARD, DEVELOPING ONCOLOGY SCIENCE”

On September 20, the VII International Forum on Oncology and Radiotherapy “For Life” will conclude. The fifth day of the Forum is being held simultaneously at two locations: the World Trade Center and the National Medical Research Radiological Centre of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, where the traditional International Tsybov Readings are taking place. This year, the event is dedicated to the development of interventional radiology and the work experience of the A.Tsyb Medical Radiological Research Centre’s department, focusing on X-ray endovascular treatment methods.

The opening ceremony was attended by honorary guests, including Deputy Governor of Kaluga Region Tatyana Leonova, Chairman of the Obninsk City Assembly Gennady Artemyev, renowned Russian scientists, and young specialists.

Many of the guests personally knew and worked with Anatoly Tsyb, including foreign member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor Rainer Rinnmuller, who is now the guardian of the Readings’ traditions and co-chair of the organizing committee. Event participants were greeted by Igor Kagramanyan, Director of the Department of Health of the Government of the Russian Federation, Deputy Minister of Health of the Russian Federation Andrey Plutnitsky, and other officials.

“Building on the traditions laid by your predecessors, you are steadily moving forward, advancing oncology science and conducting groundbreaking research recognized at the international level, as evidenced by the participation of many foreign experts at the Forum,” Igor Kagramanyan noted.
“Tsybov Readings are a significant event both for the Kaluga Region and for the country,” said Tatyana Leonova. “It highlights the continuity of generations, the respect for the scientific school, and the memory of those who contributed greatly to our country.”

Today, during the event, specialists discussed advanced methods in cardioangiology, interventional radiology, and peripheral interventions, with about 30 reports presented at the Readings. As part of the scientific program, endovascular surgeons from the A. Tsyb MRRCbranch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution of the “National Medical Research Radiological Centre” performed two demonstration liver radioembolizations using RFLP and two angioplasties of peripheral vessels.

Meanwhile, at the World Trade Center, Forum participants continued discussions through 30 thematic sections and events. At the congress on head and neck tumors, 27 presentations covered topics ranging from early tumor diagnosis to the use of neural networks in head and neck cancer clinics. The event was chaired by prominent micro-surgeons, academicians of the Russian Academy of Sciences Igor Reshetov and Evgeny Choynzonov, along with Doctor of Medical Sciences Andrey Polyakov. The National Medical Research Radiological Centre has extensive experience in performing head and neck tumor surgeries, almost all of which involve tissue reconstruction and full patient rehabilitation. Leaders of specialized departments from the country’s top clinics also shared their insights in this field.

A particularly relevant topic today was the organization of oncology care, discussed at a dedicated session. Participants debated the role of artificial intelligence in improving early cancer detection, the development of telemedicine technologies that significantly enhance the quality of oncology care, and challenges in patient routing and the organization of patient services to support those in need.

Digital healthcare also plays a crucial role, and a separate session was devoted to this topic. The session covered the legal aspects of regulating the digital ecosystem and shared experiences in processing medical data using machine learning methods and integrating diverse information systems.

Complex and non-standard situations in gastric and cardiac cancer surgery were discussed in the abdominal surgery section, chaired by Doctors of Medical Sciences Andrey Ryabov and Vladimir Khomyakov. Hepatobiliary, pancreatic, and colorectal surgeries were the focus of discussions, moderated by the Director of the National Research Center for Surgery, Transplantology, and Hematology, Academician Oleg Rumma (Belarus), and his Russian colleagues: Professor Alexey Zhao of the Academy of Continuous Education, Deputy Director of the A. Tsyb MRRC Alexey Nevolskikh, Head of the Abdominal Surgery Center of the P. Hertsen MORI Vladimir Trifanov, and Head of the A. Tsyb MRRC’s Department Leonid Petrov.

It’s difficult to list all the topics covered by the Forum’s scientific program, many of which we have already discussed. However, the most important takeaway is this: the vibrant exchange of knowledge, experiences, and observations at meetings like the International Forum “For Life” significantly enriches the science and practice of oncology, contributing to new achievements in the fight for human life.
