What to do with thyroid cancer and pregnancy!
A patient from the village of Selyatino, Moscow region, was treated at the A.F. Tsyba MRNC for stage 4 thyroid cancer three years ago. She received comprehensive treatment for this cancer, including radioiodine therapy. For a long period, oncologists who observed her finally allowed her to realize her reproductive function without fear for her health.
The woman is only 28 years old, but unfortunately, during the examination after treatment, it was found that she has a low ovarian reserve, a low indicator of sex hormones and no menstrual cycle.
Considering that the patient’s biological material was preserved in the Oncobiobank of the A.F. Tsyba MRSC before treatment of thyroid cancer, she underwent autotransplantation of ovarian tissue. Embryologists thawed her biomaterial and laparoscopically, creating a special depot in the ovary, placed fragments of thawed ovarian tissue there.
The MRNC named after A.F. Tsyba has accumulated extensive experience in cryopreservation of biological tissue of patients who have undergone oncological diseases, which allowed to return the happiness of fatherhood and motherhood to many citizens who had healthy children.
Three to four months after autotransplantation of fragments of healthy ovarian tissue into damaged ovaries, they began to function, the ovarian reserve was restored, this allowed the woman to become pregnant. In this case, our patient had a son, who is called Fedenka, and the entire clinic of the MRSC named after A.F. Tsyba calls him Uncle Fedor. We wish them good health and happiness.
Meanwhile, Professor Marina Kiseleva notes that every citizen with an oncological diagnosis can carry out cryo conservation of biological material to preserve reproductive function before starting treatment.
