COURSE FOR THE FORUM “FOR LIFE”
We are launching a series of publications dedicated to the most significant oncology event of the year, set to take place this September — the VIII Oncology and Radiotherapy Forum “For Life”. As tradition holds, the Forum will be held in Moscow at the World Trade Center and will bring together leading experts in cancer diagnosis and treatment. Dr. Anton Zaitsev P. Hertsen Moscow Oncology Research Institute (MORI) – branch of the National Medical Research Radiological Centre (NMRRC) of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation— shares details about the “Neuro-Oncology” section.
“This year, we have made a special effort to bring together representatives from the country’s leading centers that, along with us, are tackling the challenges of brain tumor diagnosis, treatment, and neurosurgery. These include our own National Medical Research Radiological Center with all of its branches, the N.N. Petrov National Medical Research Oncology Center, the Burdenko Neurosurgery Center — the leading specialized center in the country — as well as the Almazov National Medical Research Centre’s Institute of Neurosurgery named after Albukhov, the N.N. Blokhin National Medical Research Center of Oncology, and the N.V. Sklifosovsky Research Institute for Emergency Medicine, among other clinical and academic institutions in our field.
What new topics will we discuss? First, we’ll focus on cutting-edge navigation technologies in neuro-oncology — for example, the use of artificial intelligence in detecting brain tumors. We will also explore molecular-genetic aspects that influence treatment strategies for diseases in our domain. A significant portion will be devoted to analyzing errors in neurosurgical practice and discussing the urgent challenges cancer poses today. For instance, we’ll examine the temporal dynamics of tumor development — particularly the growth rate of brain metastases and ways to influence this process. This will form the first part of our section.
The second part will be a master class focused on metastatic lesions of the central nervous system in lung cancer, including a detailed analysis of selected treatment strategies. We will present some of the most interesting and complex clinical cases and hear from our colleagues on how they would have approached these cases. We’ll discuss what modern drug and radiation therapies can offer in addition to surgical treatment, and share practical insights from across the country. This will be a contemporary school of neurosurgery in oncology, which I hope will be of great value to all Forum participants and everyone attending our section.”
