Doctors at the National Medical Research Radiological Centre of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation Performed a Complex Surgery and Saved the Life of a Patient from Luhansk
The woman was at risk of developing complications related to the progression of her oncological disease. Specialists at the National Medical Research Radiological Centre of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation developed an individualized treatment plan and saved her life.
Irina Alexandrovna, a resident of Luhansk, was admitted to the National Medical Research Radiological Centre of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation following a recurrence of cervical cancer. A year after surgery, she began suffering from constant pain in her lower abdomen, and Irina was diagnosed with the progression of the oncological process.
She required the assistance of specialists at the federal center. The patient was admitted to the Department of Radiation Injuries at the A.Tsyb Medical Radiological Research Centre, – branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution of the “National Medical Research Radiological Centre” of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, where women with advanced reproductive system cancer receive care.
Due to the progression of the disease, the tumor had already compressed both ureters, leading to kidney failure. This condition forced the specialists to provide additional therapy considering the complications, as well as to prepare the patient for surgery in the shortest possible time and perform it as quickly as possible, as prolonged anesthesia could have caused even more harm to her health than the tumor itself.
“First, we performed a bilateral nephrostomy on the patient, a procedure aimed at restoring urine flow. After that, we carried out anterior exenteration, which involved removing all the pelvic organs as well as the lymph nodes,” says Nikita Gorbachev, an oncologist at the Department of Radiation Injuries at the A.Tsyb Medical Radiological Research Centre.
As the specialist explains, such an extensive intervention was necessary for the patient due to life-threatening indications. However, today her life is no longer in danger. After a week of rehabilitation, Irina Alexandrovna will return home to her beloved husband, children, and grandchildren, who are eagerly awaiting her return.
