DOCTORS OF THE SRI OF UROLOGY SAVED A PATIENT’S AFFECTED KIDNEY
A 45-year-old woman from Moscow region began to experience nagging pain in the kidney area. Concerned about her symptoms, she contacted her local doctors. After examination, doctors discovered a large tumor of the right kidney (5.5 cm), growing inside the sinus of the organ.
In different clinics, the patient was told that the only way to save her was to remove the affected kidney before the tumor grew even larger. But the woman did not give up and continued to look for a clinic where she would be offered alternative treatment. Her last hope was the N. Lopatkin Scientific Research Institute of Urology and Interventional Radiology – branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution of the “National Medical Research Radiological Centre” of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation and this choice proved correct.
Doctors of the Oncourology Department of N. Lopatkin Scientific Research Institute of Urology and Interventional Radiology performed a real miracle: they not only successfully removed the malignant tumor, but also preserved the kidney.
“The operation lasted just over an hour, and the most difficult task was to restore the kidney structures in order to preserve kidney function as much as possible without affecting the renal arteries and veins. We succeeded thanks to our extensive experience in performing such operations. Kidney function was not affected, the tumor was completely removed,” said oncologist at Scientific Research Institute of Urology and Interventional Radiology and operating surgeon Oleg Vladimirovich Osipov.
After the operation, the patient quickly recovered and went home on the fifth day, completely healthy. In the future, she will be observed by doctors at the National Medical Research Radiological Centre.
