“IT’S A MIRACLE I MET MY DOCTOR.” PATIENT STORY
Five years ago, 63 years old Alla from Orel took a step that dramatically changed her life: she decided to undergo a kidney transplant. Today, at her regular checkup with her doctor, she recalls with special warmth how happy she was at the time about the new opportunities this life-saving operation opened up for her. She also speaks with deep gratitude about her doctor, with whom she still keeps in touch.
Alla’s kidney problems began at the age of 35 when she was diagnosed with kidney failure. Local doctors offered hemodialysis a procedure that required regular visits to the medical center. “I categorically refused hemodialysis, hoping for a miracle, but my tests were getting worse,” the woman recalls.
One day Alla accidentally saw information on the Internet about the N. Lopatkin Scientific Research Institute of Urology and Interventional Radiology – the branch of the FSBI “National Medical Research Radiological Centre” of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation in Moscow, where kidney transplant surgeries are performed. The woman made an appointment, where she was consulted by surgeon Andrey Mitish, head of the kidney transplantation and vascular surgery department in urology. “Having carefully studied my clinical situation, Andrey Evgenyevich convinced me that it was impossible to delay and that surgery was necessary in my case!” says Alla.
The wait for a suitable organ lasted only a month, and soon the long-awaited call came. The operation, performed five years ago, was successful. “My husband was the most worried, did not sleep and waited for me at the institute, recalls Alla. All these five years I am in touch with Andrei Evgenievich. If something happens, I can call him at any time of the day, and he always helps. I am eternally grateful to him. It’s a miracle that I met my doctor!”
After transplantation, patients must constantly be under dynamic control. Today Alla once again came to her almost home department for a checkup. “I am grateful to all the medical staff of the department is one friendly team of professionals”. The woman continues to work, do sports, travel and just live. “The only thing that distinguishes me from others is a conscious understanding that life is short and you need to enjoy every moment of it!” says our heroine.
