And the tumor was removed, and the breast was preserved!

Surgeons The Department of Oncology and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery of the Breast and Skin of the P.A. Herzen MNIOI, a branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “NMIC of Radiology” of the Ministry of Health of Russia, headed by its head, Doctor of Medical Sciences Zikiryakhodzhaev Aziz Dilshodovich, performed a complex operation for simultaneous removal of a malignant tumor and breast reconstruction in a young woman.

For the FSBI “NMIC of Radiology” of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, operations for simultaneous removal of a malignant tumor and breast reconstruction have long become routine, however, the case of a patient who was treated at the P.A. Herzen Institute of Medical Research turned out to be truly unique.

Five years ago, she underwent breast augmentation surgery with implants. After that, the patient systematically underwent examinations, during which a malignant tumor was detected, above the endoprosthesis, right in the nipple area.

Most often, with such localization of the tumor and taking into account the presence of an endoprosthesis, and the close adherence of the tumor to the skin, patients perform a complete removal of the breast, including the nipple and skin area.  However, our surgeons offered a method of reconstructive surgery, which allowed the patient to preserve aesthetic beauty.

During the operation, the young woman underwent subcutaneous mastectomy with simultaneous mammoplasty “TDL flap” in combination with an endoprosthesis.

To repair the defect, the patient’s own tissues were used: a patch of skin from the back muscle, which was moved to the chest area, and the implant was also replaced for the woman.

Currently, our patient feels well and is preparing for discharge.
