NMIC of Radiology in persons. Konstantin Ibragimovich Totrov
Konstantin Ibragimovich Totrov, Urologist of the Department of X-ray Shockwave Remote Crushing of Stones of the N.A. Lopatkin Research Institute of Urology and Interventional Radiology – Branch of the NMIC Radiology of the Ministry of Health of Russia:
“The main thing is the ability to support the patient not only with medicines and tools, but also morally”
Every person has an example in life, a personal reference point. For Konstantin Ibragimovich, since childhood, such a person was his father – Ibrahim Tasoevich Totrov, a vascular surgeon who worked for a long time in the city hospital. My mother is also a medical worker, and my son has been absorbing this atmosphere since childhood, his parents’ love for medicine.
K.I. Totrov graduated from the Second Medical University (RNIMU) named after N.I. Pirogov in 2000 with a degree in medical science. I became interested in specialization in the third year, when I was practicing in the urology department of one of the city hospitals.
-When I started to dive into the specialty, I wanted to understand and embrace as much as possible, but at some point it comes time to choose a clearer goal. It became urolithiasis. This is an acute disease, unfortunately it is developing, and I really wanted to make my contribution to overcoming it.
– I remember all my teachers, and I am grateful to them to this day, – Dr. Totrov admits. – I was lucky, I found a galaxy of brilliant teachers and academician Nikolai Alekseevich Lopatkin himself accepted me to work at the Institute of Urology, who then closely followed my progress. However, as well as for the successes of all other young doctors, to whom he gave a “start in life”. For me, thanks to Nikolai Alekseevich, a whole world has opened up, which I still know. I studied with such wonderful, legendary urologists-surgeons from God, as E.K. Yanenko, N.K. Dzeranov, A.V. Lykov – these were all specialists of the highest standard, the stars of the Russian urological school.
The responsibilities of the doctor of the department of remote stone crushing include a lot of functions: receiving patients for consultations, selection for hospitalization, performing operations on remote shockwave lithotrep. This is the most gentle, minimally invasive method of stone destruction, and it is widely used in the Research Institute of Urology.
– Unfortunately, not all patients suffering from urolithiasis are suitable for this method, so the doctor has a huge responsibility for strict and careful selection of patients who will really benefit from such an intervention.
In addition to clinical practice, like many employees of the department of urolithiasis, Dr. Totrov lectures to students and residents, conducts classes for colleagues from the regions who come to improve their qualifications at the Research Institute of Urology as the main institution for urological diseases, and, of course, “leads” his patients – monitors the success of patients after treatment.
When asked what is the main thing in his work, Konstantin Ibrahimovich answers: empathy. To put it simply – sympathy for the patient, his sufferings and victories. The ability to support not only with medicines and tools, but also morally, as bequeathed by our great teachers. This, by the way, you will not find in any medical school, except the Russian one.
