NMRRC in persons. Ravshan Mukhitdinovich Safarov
M.d. Professor Ravshan Mukhitdinovich Safarov, Chief Researcher of the Department of Oncourology of N. Lopatkin Research Institute of Urology and Interventional Radiology – the branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “National Medical Research Radiological Centre” of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.
“Every patient is different!”
At the age of 10, Ravshan suffered a kidney injury, and after undergoing a complex operation, the boy had the idea of becoming a doctor and, in particular, an urological surgeon. After graduating from school, he entered the Astrakhan Medical Institute, and after graduating in 1976, he came to work as an assigned worker in Balashikha.
During his first student years, Ravshan Mukhitdinovich already assisted in operations, and in the third and fourth year he independently, under the guidance of mentors, performed primary treatment of wounds, opening of abscesses, and appendectomy. At the Balashikha district hospital, Ravshan Mukhitdinovich met his first mentor, V.D. Koloskov, head of the urology department, who marked the beginning of his path to surgery and urology. The mentor was a doctor of the highest category, and at that time it was very difficult to achieve such a title.
One of the key moments in his professional growth was a meeting with Nikolai Alekseevich Lopatkin, which took place at the 47th City Clinical Hospital in Moscow, where he completed his residency. Once, during a round, Nikolai Alekseevich noticed a young specialist and offered him a job at the Urology Research Institute. It was in 1983. Since then, Ravshan Mukhitdinovich has been faithful to his institute.
The first dissertation was on the topic “Uretero-pielo-calico anastomosis for reconstructive surgery of the upper urinary tract.” Further, his scientific activity was devoted to the introduction of laser radiation into urological practice, which served as the basis for his doctoral dissertation “Laser radiation in the treatment of urolithiasis and its complications.”
His medical path was standard, says Dr. Safarov, but Ravshan Mukhitdinovich considers the most important circumstance to be the role of the teachers with whom he was lucky enough to meet. In addition to Nikolai Alekseevich Lopatkin, a whole galaxy of brilliant scientists: E. K. Yanenko, head of the department of urolithiasis, A. F. Darenkov, deputy director for scientific affairs, V. G. Goryunov from the department of andrology, A. L. Shabad, head of the department of the Second Medical Institute, and E.B. Mazo – they all worked and taught at this time, and were his mentors. And it still motivates Ravshan Mukhitdinovich to continue the work of his teachers and treat patients.
“At one time, Nikolai Alekseevich Lopatkin said that it is impossible to treat a patient only according to standards. I can talk to a patient for ten minutes, or I can talk for an hour or more, as long as it is necessary. Every patient is different.”
Ravshan Mukhitdinovich is guided by this principle to this day – a comprehensive approach to the patient, a correct diagnosis, which requires the doctor to have comprehensive knowledge in many disciplines, not only in the medical specialty, but also in other areas.
The association in 2014 of the Oncologists of the Hertsen Institute, the A. Tsyb Medical Radiological Research Centre and the Research Institute of Urology and the N. Lopatkin Research Institute of Urology and Interventional Radiology, which happened soon after 10 years, allowed the institute to expand the range and quality of medical care.
“The Center is constantly searching for new treatment methods, expanding clinical experience, mastering new promising drugs, and all this has a huge positive effect on the work of the team as a whole and each of its employees,” says Professor Safarov.
