Today our hero is a doctor at the pediatric uroandrological department of the N. Lopatkin Scientific Research Institute of Urology and Interventional Radiology – branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution of the “National Medical Research Radiological Centre” of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, c.m.s. Arthur Borisovich Vardak, who received the Gratitude of the Minister of Health of the Russian Federation

Arthur Borisovich’s craving for medicine started from the age of 14, thanks to the stories of his aunt, a surgeon. She made him realize that “helping people, treating them is a good thing.” And already in the 9th grade, Arthur finally understood that he would connect his life with medicine.

In his sixth year at the Voronezh Medical Academy, student Vardak decided on his direction, realized that his path was urology.

After working for a year as a pediatric surgeon in the city of Yelets, where he is from, Arthur Borisovich moved to Moscow and has been working at the N. Lopatkin SRI of Urology and Interventional Radiology for 11 years.

His specialty is endoscopic removal of large kidney stones.

“We are the leaders in the country in performing these operations on children,” says Artur Borisovich. “We take on the most complex operations and do them on a large scale.”

And an interesting case that occurred in his practice is proof of this.

Several years ago, a girl with a dysfunction of the musculoskeletal system, the so-called “crystal child,” was admitted to the department. Due to the underlying disease, the patient received a large amount of calcium supplements, which developed urolithiasis, two large coral-shaped stones up to 6 cm formed in the left kidney and in the right.

️The staff of the orphanage where she was raised looked for an opportunity to have surgery in various clinics in our country, but they were unable to find anyone willing to take her for surgical treatment in Russia. At the moment when the girl got a consultation at N. Lopatkin SRI of Urology and Interventional Radiology, there was already an agreement to send her to Germany. Despite all the difficulties of the upcoming operation, Arthur Borisovich and his team took on this case and successfully performed percutaneous nephrolitholapaxy, which the young patient tolerated well and made a full recovery quite quickly.

And this was followed by another great joy – after a while she was adopted.

Arthur Borisovich has colossal communication skills with children. After all, working with children, unlike adults, has a special approach.

-It’s difficult to agree on something with young children under 4-5 years old, I either talk with parents or play a psychological game,” Dr. Vardak shares his experience. – I use a soft voice and ask various leading questions about his family, pets, interest in various cartoons, films and toys. In this way, I build a trusting relationships with the child, which significantly speeds up the process of diagnosis and treatment.
