Interaction in the international arena has become an important topic on the agenda of the Russia — Africa Summit

“For peace, security and development!” -under this slogan, the largest international event – the Russia – Africa Summit-was held in St. Petersburg on July 28 and 29. The event was the largest in Russian-African relations. Within the framework of the Summit, an Economic and Humanitarian Forum was held, which is primarily aimed at achieving a qualitatively new level of mutually beneficial partnership that meets the challenges of the XXI century.

Traditionally, open discussions on the business program of the event focused on the most pressing topics on the Russian-African agenda, including healthcare. The achievements of Russian medicine were presented both during scientific sessions and round tables, as well as at a large-scale exhibition held within the framework of the Healthy Society stand. It was here that our Center-NMRC of Radiology of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation presented its advanced developments in the field of nuclear technologies. The working group was headed by the head of the Center, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Andrey KAPRIN.

During the sessions devoted to the export of Russian medical services and innovative medical products, Andrey KAPRIN spoke about possible options for cooperation with African countries that the Center can offer today.
First of all, we talked about unique technologies for the treatment of malignant neoplasms, which are used only in our Center or several medical institutions. – NMRC of Radiology is the only one where, in addition to brachytherapy for prostate cancer, the method is used for pancreatic cancer, as well as some types of breast cancer. ️We have also opened the first Nuclear Pharmacy in the country, which produces a whole line of radiopharmaceutical drugs used both for metastatic lesions and for the treatment of non — oncological diseases, ” said Andrey KAPRIN. In addition, he drew the attention of the session participants to such a high statistical incidence rate in African countries as unidentified cancers. ️ – Countries of the African continent need to establish a static data register. Proper organization of such accounting is the most important and integral part of the fight against cancer. On the basis of our Center, there are two national registers at once: the Cancer Register for Cancer Care in Russia and the National Radiation and Epidemiological Register, ” he said. Andrey Dmitrievich also stressed that the Center is ready to cooperate both in helping foreign patients( according to him, more than 2,000 foreigners were treated in the branches of the National Research Medical Center of Radiology in 2022 alone) and in professional training of medical personnel. First of all, we are talking about telemedicine consultations “doctor-doctor” and “doctor – patient”, training and advanced training of doctors both in person and remotely.

A large-scale exhibition was also held at the Healthy Society stand, where our Center presented a compact model of the Rhenium-188 generator for the synthesis of radiopharmaceutical drugs, ophthalmoapplicators for the treatment of eye melanoma and retinoblastoma, as well as a mock-up of Russia’s first compact proton accelerator Prometheus, which is used for the treatment of head and neck tumors.

In general, the search for new opportunities for collaboration between Russian and African scientists in the framework of multilateral cooperation on promising and relevant projects, the exchange of experience and joint research are now an important step in developing cooperation and strengthening ties between Russia and African countries.
