The Governor of the Kursk region Roman Starovoit, who pays close attention to the development of oncological services in the region, held a meeting with Academician Andrey Kaprin. During the meeting, he recalled that at the end of last year, the Kursk regional Clinical Oncological dispensary started operating at full capacity, the third stage was put into operation, which is why the governor expressed hope that with modern oncological infrastructure, the Kursk region can provide a full range of oncological treatment and rehabilitation of patients – from the moment of diagnosis to observation on the register.

In turn   Andrey Kaprin highly appreciated the capacity of the Kursk cancer center. “It can be made a research institute. You are going in the right direction. But there is a problem – personnel, as in the whole world. You have assembled a wonderful team, but it needs to be strengthened by professional scientific personnel,” said Andrey Kaprin. According to him, it is necessary to develop measures to support the invited specialists. Attention also needs to be paid to the development of infrastructure for doctors, including the provision of housing.

Another question related to the development of medical tourism, which will attract cancer patients from other cities and countries. Also during the meeting, it was agreed that the specialists of the Kursk Center will take advanced training courses at the FSBI “NMIC Radiology” of the Ministry of Health of Russia. Andrey Dmitrievich stressed that he sees the development of the further potential of this medical institution in working with patients with borderline diseases. In particular, they discussed the opening of dialysis beds and a unit for high-dose chemotherapy with bone marrow transplantation.

In the Kursk Regional Cancer Center itself, which was visited by specialists of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “NMIC of Radiology” of the Ministry of Health of Russia headed by Academician Kaprin, a morning interregional meeting was held, as well as demonstration master classes in surgery. “Such master classes are a useful experience for our specialists, during which we watch how these operations are performed by leading surgeons working at the National Medical Research Center, which is a forge of personnel and technologies,” said the chief physician of the Kursk Oncological Center, Uglesha Stanoevich.

At the end of the working trip, Andrey Kaprin, answering journalists’ questions, especially stressed that the Kursk region has all the conditions for providing highly qualified medical care. “Our task – specialists from the national reference center – is not just to share experience and show what our doctors can do, but also to assess the real state of cancer care in the region. Our goal is to develop oncological services in the country and in the Kursk region, in particular. And such training landings help our colleagues to adopt experience in practice and improve the technology of their work,” Andrey Kaprin concluded.
