Mikhail Murashko opened a new radiotherapy department at the Pirogov Center of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation

Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko opened a new radiotherapy department at the “National Medical and Surgical Center named after N.I. Pirogov” of the Ministry of Health.

This is a multidisciplinary center providing assistance in 24 profiles. Now the medical institution will provide specialized oncological care to combat malignant tumors:

• Mammary cancer;
• Prostate cancer;
• Lung cancer;
• Rectal cancer;
• Cervical and uterine cancer;
• Malignant lymphomas and multiple myeloma;
• Malignant neoplasms of the central nervous system;
• Metastatic malignant neoplasms (irradiation of individual metastases) and other localizations of malignant neoplasms.

“Today we opened the department of external beam radiation therapy, and this is another contribution to the development of oncological care. In National Medical and Surgical Center named after N.I. Pirogov of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, 20% of the total number of patients are oncology patients,” – the minister noted.

The department is equipped with unique high-tech equipment, including a linear accelerator.

The device allows to carry out all radiotherapeutic and radiosurgical methods of treating malignant tumors.

In addition, the linear accelerator makes it possible to treat various malignant neoplasms with maximum efficiency and minimal side effects.
