MODERN RADIOSURGERY OPENS UP NEW PERSPECTIVES IN THE TREATMENT OF PREVIOUSLY HOPELESS PATIENTS
Semyon, a native of the Vladimir region, learned of his diagnosis only when the cancer had already spread to neighbouring organs and began to cause him serious discomfort. The feeling of a lump in his throat and pain when swallowing became his constant companions. After a while they were aggravated by bleeding from the oral cavity. When the man went to the doctor, he was diagnosed with epiglottitis cancer spreading to the root of the tongue.
At his place of residence, specialists were ready to provide him with all the necessary help, but Semyon refused treatment. It was only six months later, when the pain became unbearable, that the man decided to be hospitalised.
However, they could not help Semyon at his place of residence, as the process was too advanced. His last hope was the Department of Radiosurgical Methods of Diagnosis and Treatment at the A. Tsyb Medical Radiological Research Centre (MRRC) – the branch of the FSBI “National Medical Research Radiological Centre” (NMRRC) of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, which has accumulated extensive experience in managing such patients using chemoembolization.
