Natalia Zarubina told how finalists for the Savitsky Award in 2024 were selected

Very soon, the VII International Forum “For Life” will host the awarding of the prize named after Academician Alexander Savitsky to the best specialists of the country in the field of oncology, radiology, chemotherapy and in other nominations. One of them is “The Best Nursing Specialist”.

N.Y. Zarubina, Chief Nurse of the P. Hetsen MORI, is a member of the expert council of the Savitsky Prize. We asked her to tell us how the finalists were selected this year.

– This is not the first time I have had to work as a member of the expert council of the Savitsky Award/

In 2019, a nursing committee was created within the Association of Oncologists of Russia, to which I was also invited. It deals with various activities in our community. Among other things, a number of the committee’s experts are members of the prize’s competition committee.

– How many works were submitted this year in the Nursing nomination?

– We started with 9 works, and in 2024 already 15 applicants submitted their projects to the expert council. It should be noted that this year the regions, including the Moscow region, were much more active.

– Which region has shown the most interest in participating in the competition?

– Last year we can name the Tula and Smolensk regions. Now Tyumen and St. Petersburg are in the lead in terms of activity. And Moscow, of course.

– What issues do the contestants write about?

– The main topic is the benefit for our patients and, in general, for the organization of high-level oncological care. But there are some specifics. You know that this year has been declared the Year of Mentoring, so this theme also appeared in the works of our contestants.  P. Hertsen Moscow Oncology Research Institute (MORI) – branch of the FSBI “National Medical Research Radiological Centre” (NMRRC) of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation presented its project on mentoring, and according to the results of a complex selection, not only according to the opinion of one member of the expert council, this work made it to the final of the competition. It describes a pilot project of interaction between a medical institution and educational organizations, in the framework of which there is a close contact with future specialists from admission to the first year of study to employment. This year, three young specialists after graduating from the Medical College of the Russian Academy of Sciences came to work at the Institute.

– What does the system for evaluating submitted works look like?

– We have a list of criteria that we present to all applicants, plus a popular vote. The result is summarized, and the four applicants with the most votes become finalists.

– Are there any differences between this year’s entries and previous years?

– Yes. The members of the Expert Council note the high level of the submitted projects. “Digital” has fully entered our daily life, and this is evident, among other things, by the very high quality format of their design and presentation.

– What works struck you personally or surprised you in some way?

– All four of these projects were finalists, and you can read about them on the Savitsky Prize website.

We are waiting for September 18 to find out the names of the winners-2024!
