NEW APPROACHES IN UNDERSTANDING THE NATURE OF SARCOMAS
The monograph “Soft Tissue Sarcomas”, dedicated to a vast group of malignant neoplasms developing from connective tissue cells, has been published in the publishing house “ABB-Press” under the editorship of Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences A.D. Kaprin.
The author’s team includes specialists well known in the field of sarcoma treatment: the president of the East European Sarcoma Study Group, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences M.D. Aliev, and the executive director of VEGIS, Prof. A.A. Fedenko.
“This is the first edition in Russian language, which includes almost the entire world experience of diagnostics and treatment of this rare disease, emphasized Professor Fedenko. This is a real encyclopedia on all types and subtypes of sarcomas, their forms, etiology, clinical picture, features of structure, differential diagnosis and treatment”.
The authors of the monograph pay special attention to various methods and modes of treatment, taking into account the subtypes and features of sarcomas. This is a very formidable and dangerous disease, with improper treatment of which about half of patients with sarcoma die from its progression. The overall five-year survival rate is 5562%.
“Andrey Dmitrievich set us the task of creating such a book, since the field of soft tissue sarcoma research itself is an area that is poorly studied, but extremely important for oncology as a whole. It was necessary not only to make a broad overview of modern knowledge about it, but also to show new horizons in understanding its nature and modern ways of fighting this disease. So far there has not been such a detailed manual on soft tissue sarcomas in Russia”, – noted A.A. Fedenko.
“The book deeply immerses the reader in molecular, cellular and clinical aspects of sarcomas, seeking to consider their interrelationship and identify factors influencing the choice of optimal treatment strategy in each individual case,” emphasized A.D. Kaprin in his preface to the publication.
The authors are confident that the monograph will be a desk book for any oncologist in the first place, but not only for them. The publication is also addressed to physicians of related specialties, postgraduates, residents and students of medical universities, and will contribute to early diagnosis of orphan, rare diseases, which include soft tissue sarcoma, as well as to improve the quality of care provided to cancer patients, to expand the range of possibilities in the treatment of sarcomas and to replicate the best practices.
