ONCOPATRUL HELPS WITH CHOOSING A MEDICAL SPECIALIZATION
Students from the Stavropol State Medical University completed an internship at the P. Hertsen Moscow Oncology Research Institute – branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution of the “National Medical Research Radiological Centre” of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.
To recall, in April of this year, as part of the implementation of the All-Russian informational and educational project “Oncopatrul,” a student oncology competition was held in the Stavropol among students of the aforementioned medical university. Ten teams participated, each consisting of three members.
During the competition, students went through three stages: they solved a situational problem to diagnose a patient, answered questions and solved an oncology crossword puzzle. The competition was held in a friendly atmosphere and sparked great interest among the university students. The grand prize for the winning team was a week-long internship at our Center.
Rayaana Dokshukaeva, Satsita Suleimanova, and Dokka Ginaev, the winners of the competition, completed their internship in the departments of head and neck surgery, abdominal and neurosurgery, oncology, and reconstructive and plastic surgery of the breast and skin at the P. Hertsen Moscow Oncology Research Institute in August of this year. They were given the opportunity to learn about the work and equipment of these departments, practice surgical skills on the latest equipment, and assist leading specialists in surgeries.
Upon completing the course, the competition winners received certificates of completion and a gift set from the National Medical Research Radiological Centre.
“This experience in professional orientation, immersing medical university students directly into the world of oncology both as a science and clinical practice, was tested by us for the first time,” noted Andrey Kaprin, Director General of the National Medical Research Radiological Centre of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation and Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences. “It will definitely be adopted by ‘Oncopatrul’ in those regions of the Russian Federation where there are higher medical educational institutions. The influx of new personnel is very important for the further development of Russia’s oncology service.”
