How a successful TV personality became a famous oncologist

In May 2018, an unusual patient appeared in the thoracoabdominal department of the PA. Herzen Moscow State Medical Institute, a branch of the FSBI NMIC of Radiology of the Ministry of Health of Russia. He had been here many times before, but as part of television crews who helped doctors talk about the best practices of domestic oncology. Now he needed help himself.

-In 2014, on another business trip, I felt pain under the ribs, lungs or bronchi, but one of my colleagues said, they say, maybe the stomach and offered to drink almagel. I drank and I felt better,” he told his attending physician. – I even went to the clinic and drank some pills.
For a while, the pain receded.
In 2018, when it began to hurt constantly, he did a comprehensive examination and gastroscopy showed cancer.
It’s already the third stage. Nikita applied to the P.A. Herzen Cancer Research Institute. They clarified the morphology of the disease and chose a tactic – radical treatment.

Unfortunately, there was little choice at this stage. But Nikita was not discouraged and was preparing for the operation.
At the appointed time, the head of the department, Vladimir Khomyakov, and his team performed an operation to remove the stomach, then our patient underwent 6 courses of chemotherapy.

-When I finished the treatment, I, like many people with such radical gastric surgeries, faced the problem of nutrition. I started looking in the directories for what I can and cannot do. In general, doctors from the Herzen Institute gave me advice, and already the details – how to make my diet both healthy and useful, given that there is no main digestive organ – I thought of it myself. Tried, experimented. The fact is that I have a second profession – I am a cook, so the basic secrets of cooking are familiar to me.

While Nikita was looking for answers to his questions, he met a lot of people with the same problem.  And I decided that his experience could help them. So the account in popular social networks was born first. 

Our hero got so carried away with this issue that he left television and decided to devote himself entirely to the project, which he called “OncoDieta”, where clinical nutrition specialists give delicious and healthy recipes for people without a stomach, as well as various useful tips. For example, what to do with a low content of iron and vitamins?  How to gain weight?

-After I finished the course of chemotherapy, I went to the country. There the store was located 1-2 km from my house. I took groceries only for one day and did almost three km round trip every day. Often and fractionally ate. My day was like this: stove-computer, computer-stove. And the weight has stabilized, and now I lead an almost normal, active lifestyle. All summer, my 6-year-old daughter and I have been fishing on Seliger.  Her mom stayed in town, she trusts us.
Nikita Poludo recently became a guest of the live broadcast on the Instagram of Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Andrey Kaprin. Andrey Dmitrievich found out several culinary recipes from him and promised to try to cook cheesecakes for a couple too.
