For the sake of life and in the name of new victories over cancer. Results of the Forum

The Fourth International Forum of Oncology and Radiotherapy For Life was held in Moscow. The large-scale five-day event was timed to the 150th anniversary of the founder of the Russian Oncology School, Pyotr Alexandrovich Herzen, and was held with the support of the Ministry of Health of Russia, the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Association of Oncologists of Russia. The hybrid format of the meeting allowed participants to work at the forum both in person and remotely. And if more than 2,000 people were accommodated in the halls of the WTC Congress Center, then another 5,000 participants joined the forum online. In five days, the forum hosted a Business Breakfast of AOR, 3 schools, 17 congresses, 54 sections (including 12 symposiums), the V International Readings in memory of Academician A.F. Tsyba and a mini-football tournament among medical and pharmaceutical teams for the Cup of NMIC Radiology “For the Sake of Life-2021”.

The Forum For Life once again demonstrated the possibilities of a modern discussion platform that effectively unites all those who contribute to the fight against cancer and improve the quality and life expectancy of cancer patients. Nuclear physicists, chemists, geneticists, mathematicians together with practitioners and health care organizers discussed new approaches to understanding the nature of oncological diseases, innovations in the diagnosis and treatment of malignant neoplasms. The President of the country Vladimir Putin addressed the participants of the forum with words of greeting: – I am sure that within the framework of this meeting you will find answers to specific proposals and initiatives, the implementation of which will help achieve the goals set.

Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin, Chairman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko, President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Sergeev, Minister of Health of the Russian Federation Mikhail Murashko and heads of health authorities of many CIS countries sent their wishes for success to the forum. The experience of Russian specialists, who not only did not reduce the volume of oncological care during the pandemic, but also developed new unique techniques, deserved special attention and high appreciation from the entire medical community. “Despite all the difficulties and limitations, specialized oncological institutions in Russia have managed to continue working normally, showing the viability of the Russian oncological service. Our experience is recognized by the heads of European cancer centers,” said Andrey Kaprin, Director General of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “NMIC of Radiology” of the Ministry of Health of Russia, President of the Association of Oncologists of Russia, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The program of the forum was not only distinguished by scientific novelty, but at the same time had a pronounced practical component. Traditional scientific readings in memory of Anatoly Fedorovich Tsyba, held in Obninsk, gathered leading specialists who are engaged in the promotion of the latest technologies in the field of radiosurgery. The organizers of the event paid a lot of attention to “live surgery”. Live operations were broadcast from various clinical centers, oncological and surgical institutions in different regions of Russia. There were also TV broadcasts from Japan, Azerbaijan, and Kazakhstan. The chief freelance oncologist of the Republic of Kazakhstan Dilara Kaidarova drew attention to the educational and educational function of the forum. The importance of the forum was also appreciated in the patient community. As the president of the public organization of cancer patients “Hello” Irina Borovova noted, “at the forum we have the opportunity to work closely with the best doctors of the country. If the doctor and the patient are on the same side of the barricades, the treatment process will achieve its goal.”

As part of the opening ceremony of the forum, the best of the best – doctors, heads of national medical centers, representatives of scientific institutions, health care organizers, rectors of medical universities in Russia and CIS countries – were awarded the medals of Peter Alexandrovich Herzen and Nikolai Nikolaevich Trapeznikov. The Fourth International Forum of Oncology and Radiology For Life clearly demonstrated the impressive successes of modern Russian oncology, which continues the best traditions of the national oncology school.
