Russia – Belarus: radiation recedes thanks to the help of doctors

33 years have passed since the Chernobyl disaster. During this time, Russia and Belarus have accumulated unique experience in overcoming the consequences of radiation accidents. A significant role in this was played by the “Chernobyl” programs, which were implemented in the period from 1998 to 2016.

In accordance with joint social projects, both participants in the liquidation of the consequences of the disaster at the nuclear power plant and citizens affected by this disaster can receive high-tech and specialized medical care.

Recall that, starting in 2016, the medical direction of the Program is implemented as a separate event of the Union State. It is called “Providing comprehensive medical care to certain categories of citizens of Belarus and Russia who were exposed to radiation as a result of the Chernobyl disaster.”

The state customer-coordinator is the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia.

The victims, as before, will be able to receive all the necessary medical care on the basis of three leading centers: the Federal State Budgetary Institution “National Medical Research Center of Radiology” of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation in Moscow, the “All-Russian Center for Emergency and Radiation Medicine named after A.M. Nikiforov” in St. Petersburg and the “Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Radiation Medicine and Ecology man” in Gomel.

In 2019, the Federal State Budgetary Institution “NMIC of Radiology” of the Ministry of Health of Russia will continue to carry out activities to provide free medical care within the framework of the Union State of Russia Belarus.

The Center plans to additionally provide high–tech, including specialized medical care to 164 patients, of which: 61 patients will receive high-tech care, 103 – specialized, such as:

· surgical organ-preserving and reconstructive plastic treatment of common forms of giant tumors of the genitals, adjacent pelvic organs and other abdominal organs in women using laparoscopic and combined approaches – 6;

· video endoscopic intracavitary and video endoscopic intraluminal surgical interventions, interventional radiological interventions, minimally invasive organ–preserving interventions in malignant neoplasms – 4;

· combined treatment of malignant neoplasms, combining extensive surgical interventions and drug antitumor treatment, requiring intensive supportive and corrective therapy – 3;

· remote, interstitial, intracavitary, stereotactic, radionuclide radiation therapy in radiotherapy departments, high–intensity focused ultrasound therapy for malignant neoplasms – 48;

· cervical cancer (surgical treatment) – 5;

· prolapse of the uterus, vaginal walls – 69;

· type 1-2 diabetes mellitus, moderate severity, complicated – 10;

· iron deficiency anemia – 6;

· chronic ischemic heart disease. Chronic vascular diseases – 13.

Recall that in 2016, the Federal State Budgetary Institution “NMIC of Radiology” of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, within the framework of the Union State Event, additionally provided high-tech medical care to 75 patients, specialized medical care – 135, including:

· surgical organ-preserving and reconstructive plastic treatment of common forms of giant tumors of the genitals, adjacent pelvic organs and other abdominal organs in women using laparoscopic and combined approaches – 5;

· video endoscopic intracavitary and video endoscopic intraluminal surgical interventions, interventional radiological interventions, minimally invasive organ–preserving interventions in malignant neoplasms – 10;

· combined treatment of malignant neoplasms, combining extensive surgical interventions and drug antitumor treatment, requiring intensive supportive and corrective therapy – 14;

· remote, interstitial, intracavitary, stereotactic, radionuclide radiation therapy in radiotherapy departments, high–intensity focused ultrasound therapy for malignant neoplasms – 55;

· cervical cancer (surgical treatment) – 11;

· prolapse of the uterus, vaginal walls – 79;

· type 1-2 diabetes mellitus, moderate severity, complicated – 24;

· iron deficiency anemia – 9;

· chronic ischemic heart disease. Chronic vascular diseases – 12.

In 2017, within the framework of the Event of the Union State, in addition to the volume of medical care guaranteed by the state, the FSBI “NMIC of Radiology” of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation provided high–tech medical care to 85 patients; specialized medical care – 146, including:

· surgical organ-preserving and reconstructive plastic treatment of common forms of giant tumors of the genitals, adjacent pelvic organs and other abdominal organs in women using laparoscopic and combined approaches – 7;

· video endoscopic intracavitary and video endoscopic intraluminal surgical interventions, interventional radiological interventions, minimally invasive organ–preserving interventions in malignant neoplasms – 8;

· combined treatment of malignant neoplasms, combining extensive surgical interventions and drug antitumor treatment, requiring intensive supportive and corrective therapy – 10;

· remote, interstitial, intracavitary, stereotactic, radionuclide radiation therapy in radiotherapy departments, high–intensity focused ultrasound therapy for malignant neoplasms – 60;

· cervical cancer (surgical treatment) – 22;

· prolapse of the uterus, vaginal walls – 84;

· type 1-2 diabetes mellitus, moderate severity, complicated – 16;

· iron deficiency anemia – 8;

· chronic ischemic heart disease. Chronic vascular diseases – 16.
