Fatal inhalation: proven link between vips and lung cancer

American scientists have established a link between vaping vapor and lung cancer. On the air of the MIR 24 TV channel, the results of the study were commented on by a thoracic surgeon, a researcher at the Moscow Research Oncological Institute of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “NMIC of Radiology” of the Ministry of Health of Russia Vitaly Barmin.

– Scientists from the New York University School of Medicine have found that the smoke (more precisely, steam) of electronic cigarettes causes lung cancer in mice. Does this prove that lung cancer can occur in humans for the same reason?

Vitaly Barmin: In recent years, a large number of studies have been conducted on various models. These were animal models, mouse models, the cells of people who used vape were studied. Unfortunately, the addiction turned out to be not so harmless.

– Initially, it was said that this is an excellent substitute for cigarettes, and all the harm from tobacco smoke will remain in the past.

Vitaly Barmin: Unfortunately, this is not the case. At the moment, the gold standard of nicotine replacement therapy is still drug therapy, and not any smoking mixtures.

– All these plasters, gum…

Vitaly Barmin: That’s right. Why are vapes so dangerous? There are several reasons. Firstly, the device itself is now such a fashionable device that undergoes various modifications every day. Accordingly, it is impossible to standardize the amount of steam that a person consumes per breath at the level of the device itself. Just like the temperature that is created inside. These parameters change from model to model.

– Is it of critical importance?

Vitaly Barmin: The fact is that we have to dose the amount of substances that can enter the body. And they must establish the maximum permissible concentration of a harmful chemical compound.
