SPECIALISTS FROM NATIONAL MEDICAL RESEARCH RADIOLOGICAL CENTRE HELP TO THE PATIENT FROM THE KHERSON REGION WITH LUNG CANCER TREATMENT
Vasily, a resident of the Kherson region came to the doctors with complaints of coughing. After examinations it became clear that there was a large neoplasm in the lower lobe of the patient’s left lung.
On the advice of his loved ones, the man went to the A. Tsyb Medical Radiological Research Centre (MRRC) – the branch of the FSBI “National Medical Research Radiological Centre” (NMRRC) of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.
“Unfortunately, in the early stages of lung cancer does not manifest itself in any way, and patients often begin to complain of shortness of breath, coughing, chest pain and hoarseness of voice only when the tumor grows to a large size, spreading to other organs or blocking the airway. That’s what happened to Vasili. We performed a biopsy and diagnosed squamous cell lung cancer, which is the most common in men over 40 who smoke. Due to the large size of the neoplasm, we decided to conduct several courses of chemotherapy, and then, having achieved a good response, to carry out the surgical stage of treatment,” says Grigory Afonin, acting head of the Thoracic department of the A. Tsyb Medical Radiological Research Centre (MRRC) – the branch of the FSBI “National Medical Research Radiological Centre” of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. Now the patient continues treatment in the department. Chemotherapy gives a good result, after some time a surgical operation will be performed.
Lung cancer takes the leading position in both morbidity and mortality from oncologic diseases. It is not known at what age it will manifest itself.
“We are ready to provide care to any patient facing this disease. Thoracic department of A. Tsyb MRRC is engaged in surgical, radiation and chemotherapeutic treatment of lung cancer, successfully combining methods to achieve the best results!” says Grigory Afonin.
It should be noted that absolutely everyone can get lung cancer, including non-smokers. Smoking is certainly one of the main risk factors. However, there are other reasons that should be taken into account: work at harmful production; genetic mutations; aggravated heredity; chronic inflammatory processes in the lungs.
It is important to know that cancer cells affecting the lungs divide very quickly, “launching” the process of metastasis. Therefore, timely diagnosis of the disease is so important.
