Specialists from the National Medical Research Radiological Centre held a master class at the Ivanovo Oncological Dispensary

Medical students and doctors from clinics of the city and the region watched live surgery in the conference hall of the Ivanovo Oncologic Dispensary. Together with specialists from the surgical department of the Oncologic Dispensary, the guests performed operations on malignant neoplasms of the uterus, breast and liver. For example, a 70-year-old patient diagnosed with endometrial cancer was operated on by Svetlana Mukhtarulina, Head of the Department of Gynecology with Chemotherapy at N. Lopatkin Scientific Research Institute of Urology and Interventional Radiology (SRIUIR) –  the branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “National Medical Research Radiological Centre” of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation and Kheda Maltsagova, an obstetrician-gynecologist at the department. The surgeons succeeded in removing the tumor-affected organ and signal lymph nodes.

“Such surgical interventions are quite routine, and our Ivanovo colleagues perform a large volume in endometrial cancer. Today we showed the experience of using the first domestic device “Mars”, created by Russian instrument makers for video fluorescent diagnostics. It allows to detect the nearest sentinel node due to the use of a special contrast agent. Surgeons see on the screen the localization of the nearest lymph node to the disease focus, which should be removed together with the tumor. Previously, in order to exclude the spread of cancer cells, we had to do a much larger volume of lymphodissection,” Svetlana Mukhtarulina noted.

In the neighboring operating room, a patient was prepared for surgical treatment of breast cancer. Yuri Kim, a doctor from the Department of Reconstructive and Plastic Surgery of the P. Hertsen Moscow Oncology Research Institute (MORI) – the branch of the FSBI “National Medical Research Radiological Centre” (NMRRC) of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, is operating here and will perform organ-preserving intervention without removing the entire organ and fiber, as it was recently.

️The specialists of the National Medical Research Radiological Centre together with Ivanovo doctors also performed two laparoscopic prostatectomies under the guidance of Nikolay Vorobyov, Deputy Director of Surgery at P. Hertsen Moscow Oncology Research Institute (MORI), and with the participation of Pavel Pilchuk, M.D., Department of Oncourology at P. Hertsen Moscow Oncology Research Institute ; skin-saving radical mastectomy with one-stage implant placement and sentinel node lymphodissection performed by Viktor Efanov, medical oncologist at the Department of Oncology and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery of the Breast and Skin at P. Hertsen Moscow Oncology Research Institute and with the participation of Pavel Pilchuk, M.D. of the Department of Oncology and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery of the Breast and Skin at P. Hertsen Moscow Oncology Research Institute and chemoembolization of the liver with a master class from Artur Petrosyan, a doctor of the Department of Radiosurgical Methods of diagnostics and treatment of cancer at the A.Tsyb MRRC. Natalia Fedorenko, Head of the Department of Rehabilitation after Radiation Therapy at P. Hertsen Moscow Oncology Research Institute , spoke about the problems of rehabilitation of patients after radiation.

Chemoembolization is a fairly new direction for Ivanovo oncologists. Last year, a special operating room for radioorientgenosurgery was equipped here, and, according to Nikolai Potapov, deputy chief physician of the oncologic dispensary, this type of oncologic care is planned to be put on stream. For this purpose, they turned to colleagues from the NMRC of Radiology, who shared their experience in performing such interventions.

According to Andrey Kaprin, Director General of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “National Medical Research Radiological Centre” of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, such master classes are the most effective way of sharing experience and an important component in the overall fight against cancer within the framework of the National Health Care Project.

“Only this year we have visited with seminars on “live surgery”, which was accompanied by a scientific program and the analysis of complex clinical cases, in the most different parts of the country: in Voronezh, Kirov, Kazan, Makhachkala, Perm, Vladimir, Saratov, Orel and Kaluga, – said the head of the department of coordination of medical care to Russian regions in the field of oncology and radiology of the National Medical Research Radiological Centre Yuri Samsonov. – Next year we plan to hold professional meetings with our colleagues in oncologic dispensaries of new territories – Lugansk and Donetsk. The work to improve the quality of oncologic care continues.
