SPECIALISTS FROM THE NATIONAL MEDICAL RESEARCH RADIOLOGICAL CENTRE HELD A MICROSURGICAL MASTERCLASS FOR STUDENTS AND RESIDENTS
Last week, a microsurgical training session was held at the simulation center of the A.Tsyb Medical Radiological Research Centre, – branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution of the “National Medical Research Radiological Centre” of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. The event was designed for students and residents interested in microneurosurgery.
Sergey Goryainov, a neurosurgeon at the A. Tsyb MRRC, explains: “Microneurosurgery is distinguished by well-coordinated work under a microscope, which allows for multiple magnification and precise illumination of the surgical field. This technique involves the use of special ultra-thin suture material and fine microsurgical instruments.”
For the training model, participants used the neurovascular bundle of a chicken thigh — a widely used practice model both in Russia and abroad.
Such training is essential not only for neurosurgeons but also for other specialists who work under a microscope. During the masterclass, participants were tasked with locating and isolating the nerve bundle, artery, and vein, then severing and suturing them. The young specialists worked with suture material as thin as a human hair, requiring advanced fine motor skills and continuous focus.
These masterclasses will be held regularly at the A. Tsyb MRRC. We hope they will help young specialists move closer to their dream profession and gain experience with unique manual techniques early in their careers.
