TESTICULAR CANCER AT THE AGE OF 29: THE MOST COMPLICATED SURGERY THAT SAVED HIS LIFE. GLEB’S HISTORY
Gleb is 29 years old and, like many young people, he thought that such problems would not affect him. It all started with lower back pain and enlargement of the left side of his scrotum, symptoms that at first he did not take as something serious and did not rush to see a doctor. However, as time went on, the pain only got worse.
When the man went for consultation, the doctors immediately diagnosed a testicular tumor that had spread far beyond the original focus. It had metastasized to the left kidney, adrenal gland, ureter, renal vein and inferior vena cava. Such an extensive process required immediate and comprehensive treatment.
The tumor turned out to be germ cell aggressive, but also responded quite well to standard therapies. Gleb underwent five courses of chemotherapy at the Samara Oncological Dispensary, which reduced the size of the tumor and stabilized his condition. The next stage was to be surgery, but the complexity of this clinical case required the intervention of specialists of the highest level.
Only place that could be provided treatment to Gleb and helped in such cituation is a federal center with unique experience in treating such patients. He was referred to the Department of Oncourology at the P.Hertsen MORI. This is where enormous experience in performing operations of the highest degree of complexity has been accumulated.
The operation lasted four hours. It was performed by a team of surgeons led by Nikolay Vorobyov-deputy director of surgery at the P.Hertsen MORI. The team faced a task of exceptional complexity. The tumor almost completely affected the inferior vena cava, and part of it had to be removed. At the same time, the doctors managed to save the liver without resection and damage to the blood supply, although the risk was extremely high.
“Due to the significant spread of the tumor and its penetration into vital structures, the intervention was very risky. But thanks to careful preparation and well-coordinated work of the team, we managed to achieve success,” – said Alexei Krasheninnikov, head of the urological department with chemotherapy.
Now Gleb will have to undergo an important stage of rehabilitation and additional examinations, which will help to determine further monitoring tactics. However, the main danger to his life has already been eliminated.
This story is a reminder of how important it is to pay attention to the slightest changes in the body. Regular preventive checkups, even in young people, can save lives. One visit to the doctor a year and minimal diagnostic procedures such as pelvic ultrasound can make all the difference.
Friends, be attentive to your health. Don’t ignore even those symptoms that seem insignificant. Life is always worth taking care of yourself in time.
