THE A. TSYB MEDICAL RADIOLOGICAL RESEARCH CENTRE HAS STARTED PERFORMING BRAIN SURGERIES
Patients in the late stages of the oncologic process can often encounter metastatic lesions in the brain. Recall that some types of cancer are most prone to metastasize to this area: most often it is found, for example, in lung cancer, breast cancer, melanoma and kidney cancer.
When the brain is affected, both single and multifocal nodes can be diagnosed. In the latter case, radiation therapy is considered the priority treatment.
Large and single metastatic foci in the brain are subject to surgical treatment. Such complex interventions are performed both at the P. Hertsen MORI and, more recently, at the A. Tsyb MRRC.
Neurosurgeons of the Center also provide assistance to patients with occlusive hydrocephalus. It occurs when a tumor nodule blocks the outflow of liquor (cerebrospinal fluid) from the brain. This complication is deadly. To prevent it, a special system is implanted to drain the liquor from the brain into the abdominal cavity called a ventriculo-peritoneal shunt. This helps minimize risks and allows you to safely undergo treatment.
