The Cuban delegation is studying the experience of the National Medical Research Radiological Centre of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. Last week, A. Tsyb MRRC, – branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution of the “National Medical Research Radiological Centre” of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation received ten colleagues from Cuba.
The purpose of the doctors, engineers, physicists and biologists visit was to get acquainted with breakthrough Russian developments in the field of nuclear medicine.
The guests were welcomed by the director of the A. Tsyb MRRC, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Sergei Ivanov. The meeting was attended by leading specialists of the Center in the field of nuclear medicine and modern methods of diagnosis and treatment: Valery Kucherov (head of the department of x-ray surgical methods of diagnosis and treatment), Mikhail Sigov (head of the department of treatment of diseases with closed nuclides), Igor Gulidov (head of the department of radiation therapy).
During the visit, colleagues visited the department of X-ray surgical methods of diagnosis and treatment, where the latest methods for treating tumors and diseases of the cardiovascular system are used and the liver radioembolization procedure is performed using Russian-made radiopharmaceuticals; the first nuclear pharmacy in Russia, which was opened in 2023 with the support of the Government of the Russian Federation and the Russian Ministry of Health. Today, four radiopharmaceuticals are produced here and six more are in development.
Guests also got acquainted with the latest radiation therapy devices installed at the Center, including the work of the first domestic proton accelerator “Prometheus”, which has the most compact synchrotron in the world. Let us recall that it is proton therapy that allows effective treatment of various types of cancer of complex localizations, in which surgery or other methods are powerless or cannot be used according to indications.
Sergey Ivanov spoke about the achievements of the National Medical Research Radiological Centre of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, paying special attention to the development of nuclear medicine technologies. He also emphasized the Center’s openness to full cooperation. “I am confident that today’s visit is only the first step towards further cooperation. Such international communication helps not only to develop cancer care in our countries, but also to introduce the latest technologies to help our patients”.
Consequently, the guests highly appreciated the work of the Center, showing particular interest in the possibilities of the endovascular method of treating cancer and Russian developments.
