THE LATEST APPROACHES TO GASTRIC CANCER TREATMENT WERE DISCUSSED AT THE NMRRC
Last week, the first scientific and practical conference with a master class “Thoracoabdominal Oncology: Gastric Tumors” was held at the A. Tsyb Medical Radiological Research Centre – the branch of the FSBI “National Medical Research Radiological Centre” of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. Specialists attended the event from Moscow, Obninsk, Tomsk, Tula and Nizhny Novgorod.
The Director of A. Tsyb MRRC, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Sergey Ivanov opened the conference. Welcoming the participants, he noted that “our common goal is to unite the efforts of specialists to jointly search for the most effective means of treatment and diagnostic methods for one of the most aggressive types of TNF: gastric cancer”.
“The main problem is that, like many types of cancer, in the early stages the disease does not manifest itself in any way. Most often it is an accidental finding,” says conference participant Leonid Evdokimov, MD, oncologist, and surgeon of the Thoracic Disease Treatment Department. – Unfortunately, the symptoms of the disease: pain in the upper abdomen, heartburn, loss of appetite, weight loss, nausea and heaviness after eating, as a rule, indicate a far gone process. But the most dangerous thing is that they are often transient, which delays the patient’s visit to the doctor”.
During the scientific program there were reports on a variety of topics covering modern approaches to thoracoabdominal oncology: “Long-term results of immunotherapy in combined treatment of gastric cancer”, “PIPAC in the prevention of peritoneal carcinomatosis in gastric cancer”, “Minimally invasive surgery for gastric cancer” and others. The event also included a master class “Live Surgery” led by Professor A.B. Ryabov, Deputy Director General for Surgery at the NMRRC. “To date, most of the surgeries in our Center are performed through minimally invasive access. Their advantage is minimal surgical traumatization, which contributes to early activation, rapid recovery in the postoperative period and reduces the severity of pain syndrome. It is important that such events provide an opportunity for specialists not only to share their experience, new techniques and treatments, but also to implement the gained experience in their routine practice”, – emphasized Andrei Borisovich.
