The National Medical Research Radiological Centre took part in a meeting between the Minister of Health of the Russian Federation and the heads of diplomatic missions from Latin American and Caribbean countries
On May 21, 2025, an extended meeting was held within the walls of one of the world’s oldest oncology institutions — the P. Hertsen Moscow Oncology Research Institute – branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution of the “National Medical Research Radiological Centre” of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. The event brought together the Minister of Health of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Albertovich Murashko, and the heads of diplomatic missions from Latin American and Caribbean countries. The meeting focused on current issues in the development of bilateral cooperation in healthcare, including the export of medical services, pharmaceuticals, advanced medical technologies, and medical education.
Minister Mikhail Murashko emphasized the high international demand for Russian healthcare. “The number of foreign patients who have come to receive medical care in our country has reached 21 million. We are seeing growing interest and a strong flow from neighboring and Arab countries seeking treatment in the Russian Federation,” he stated.
He also highlighted the country’s strong scientific and educational potential in the field of medicine. “Students from 150 countries around the world study in Russia,” the minister noted. He identified the treatment and diagnosis of malignant neoplasms as one of the most promising areas of medical tourism.
Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Director General of the National Medical Research Radiological Centre, Andrey Dmitrievich Kaprin, delivered a presentation on the capabilities of Russian oncology, including the development of nuclear and biomedical technologies. He provided a detailed overview of radionuclide therapy, pharmaceutical production meeting GMP standards at the NMRRC, the use of combined treatment methods, and the expansion of scientific infrastructure.
The event was attended by representatives of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including the Director of the Latin American Department, A.V. Shchetinin, as well as ambassadors and diplomats from 18 countries — including Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Venezuela, Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Chile, Uruguay and other diplomatic missions.
Speeches were also delivered by Deputy Ministers of Health Yevgenia Kotova and Sergey Glagolev, Director of the Department of Medical Education Artem Narkevich, and CEO of “VTB Medicine” Sergey Nechayev.
As part of the meeting, an exhibition showcased the capabilities of 17 federal medical and educational centers of the Russian Ministry of Health, presenting cutting-edge Russian technologies in healthcare and specialized education.
The program concluded with a tour of key departments at the P. Hertsen MORI: the radionuclide diagnostics and therapy department, the GMP laboratory, and the department of combined treatment methods.
