THE WAY TO NEW STANDARDS: RESULTS OF THE 11TH ALL-RUSSIAN CONFERENCE ON ANESTHESIOLOGY AND INTENSIVE CARE IN ONCOLOGY
On November 29-30, 2024, the 11th All-Russian Scientific and Practical Conference “Anesthesiology and Intensive Care in Oncology” was held at the P. Hertsen Moscow Oncology Research Institute. Modern trends, problems and prospects”, which gathered more than 500 participants from different parts of the country. Traditionally, the event is considered a key event for anesthesiologists-resuscitators, oncologists and experts in the field of intensive care.
The conference was chaired by the leading specialists of the country: the Chief Oncologist of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences – Andrey Kaprin and the Head of the Department of Anesthesiology and Reanimation at the P. Hertsen MORI, Professor Victoria Khoronenko. The program covered the most relevant topics facing specialists in the field of anesthesia care in oncology and oncosurgery.
One of the central blocks was the analysis of perioperative cognitive disorders. Alexey Ovezov presented in his report new data on the risks and peculiarities of cognitive decline in cancer patients after surgery. Effective methods of postoperative pain management, including multimodal strategies, were highlighted by Alexey Ovechkin and Vadim Gruzdev, emphasizing the need for a personalized approach.
Another important area was antimicrobial therapy in oncology. In their presentations, experts, including Sergey Yarovoy and Oksana Fokina, discussed modern methods of diagnostics and treatment of severe infections in cancer patients.
The final part of the first day’s program was devoted to concomitant therapy, including anticoagulants and antiemetics. The importance of prevention of cancer-associated thrombosis was revealed by Vera Potievskaya and David Dundua. The influence of different types of anesthesia on the course of pathological processes was told by Andrey Soloviev.
The key events of the second day of the conference were the section on perioperative rehabilitation chaired by Anna Merzlyakova, where they discussed the role of psychological preparation, nutritional therapy, physical rehabilitation of patients, as well as a master class on videolaryngoscopy. Modern aspects of perioperative care for oncologic patients were covered at the nursing section moderated by Natalia Zarubina, Chief Nurse at the P. Hertsen Moscow Oncology Research Institute.
The conference became not just a platform for sharing experience, but also a real educational platform. Expert presentations, discussions and question-and-answer sessions helped the participants to gain practical knowledge that can be applied in their daily work. The event emphasized the need to introduce innovative approaches in oncologic anesthesiology and demonstrated the importance of interdisciplinary approach.
