The first patients after bone marrow transplantation were discharged at the A.F. Tsyba MRSC
Andrey Kaprin, General Director of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “NMIC of Radiology” of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, congratulated the staff of the A.F. Tsyba MRNC with great success in the field of bone marrow transplantation. Two patients with cancer who underwent bone marrow transplantation have been discharged from the clinic.
Bone Marrow Transplantation (TCM) procedure it is one of the most difficult in the treatment of patients with diagnoses of malignant tumors of the hematopoietic system. It requires not only serious technical support, but also the coordinated work of a team of professionals. In this case, the situation was aggravated by the fact that one of the patients had HIV infection, which significantly complicated the treatment process. The peculiarity of the treatment of cancer patients infected with HIV is that in almost 50% of cases they are treated only with the help of bone marrow autotransplantation. There are only a few centers around the world that can provide assistance to such patients. To date, only 18 successful transplantations have been performed in HIV-infected patients in the Russian Federation.
The application of this technique at the A.F.Tsyba MRSC became possible thanks to the consistent introduction of modern technologies, the development of the personnel potential of the NMIC of Radiology and support from the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, which allocated targeted funding for this direction.
“Thus,” says Sergey Ivanov, Director of the A.F. Tsyba MRSC, “a highly professional bone marrow transplantation center in Obninsk, equipped with innovative equipment, in addition to performing TCM for oncological patients, can carry out unique treatment regimens for HIV-oncological patients,” he stressed.
Natalia Falaleeva, head of the Department of Drug Treatment of Malignant neoplasms, said that the patients were discharged on the 23rd and 28th days of hospital stay in a satisfactory condition. – At the same time, the recovery of blood parameters in an HIV-infected patient came even a little earlier than expected.
In turn, Andrey Kaprin stressed that the success of this treatment is largely ensured by the well-coordinated work of the team of specialists of the A.F. Tsyba MRSC under the guidance of Professor Sergey Ivanov of the Russian Academy of Sciences: head of the Department of Drug Treatment of Malignant Neoplasms, M.N.,N.A. Falaleeva, Head of the Department of Laboratory Medicine, B.N., L.Y. Grivtsova, Head of the Department of Blood Transfusion, M.N., E.V. Sayapina, Head of the Department of Anesthesiology and Resuscitation, M.N., A.L. Potapov, head of the department of radiation and drug treatment of hemoblastosis.M.N., A.Yu.
