An Ion Therapy Center will be built in Obninsk
Russia’s first clinical center for the treatment of oncological diseases with heavy carbon ions will be built on the basis of the NMIC of Radiology of the Ministry of Health of Russia. An agreement on this will be signed between Russian and Japanese experts on September 5 within the framework of the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok (WEF-2019).
Japan was the first to create this unique method of super-precision treatment of cancer patients with a beam of carbon ions. There are nine such centers in the Land of the Rising Sun, three operating in Europe (in Austria, Germany, Italy) and three accelerators in China.
As is known, up to 30% of tumors have pronounced radioresistance to photon and proton exposure. Therefore, the prospects for improving the results of treatment of patients with similar tumors are currently associated with the use of carbon ions.
The creation of a modern ion therapy center based on the NMIC of Radiology, which has a high scientific and human potential, allows us to guarantee the fastest possible introduction into clinical operation and the effective use of all available capabilities.
Turnkey construction will provide An international medical consulting company (Russia), from the Japanese side – Ship Healthcare Group Medical Tourism Japan Co.,Ltd. will provide financing for the project and technology transfer.
