Bulletin of the Second International Forum of Oncology and Radiology No. 2
A YOUNG ONCOLOGIST FROM VLADIVOSTOK RECEIVED AN INTERNATIONAL GRANT

Olga Plotnikova, an oncologist from Vladivostok, became a real sensation on the second day of the forum. She took first place in the competition of young specialists, which was held by the Association of Young Oncologists, established at the NMIC of Radiology of the Ministry of Health of Russia. We asked her to share her impressions especially for the bulletin of the forum.
— I represent the Vladivostok Regional Oncological Dispensary, where I work as an oncologist so far
another month and a half. But the project itself, which has received recognition at such a representative forum, has been in existence for more than 5 years.
I graduated from the Pacific Medical University and completed my residency in oncology, and now I have also entered graduate school. At the first congress of the Association of Young Oncologists, my colleagues from 25 regions presented their reports. Including me. My research was devoted to the use of tantalum oxide and iron oxide for radiation therapy. This substance, in our opinion, will enhance the local effects of radiation and reduce side effects — damage to surrounding tissues.
— Is this your personal project?
— No, we work as part of a team: representatives of the Medical University, the Far Eastern Federal University, the Institute of Chemistry and the Pacific University of Bioorganic Chemistry: physicists, chemists, doctors. This is the idea of our ideological inspirer, Professor V.I. Panasevich, MD.
I am researching the effect of using this substance, which chemists are preparing for us. Then physicists investigate the spectra of this sub-
stances further animal testing is my medical part. We had a large experiment in which 60 mice with a grafted tumor participated. They were divided into 4 groups: control, animals with irradiation, animals with substance, and animals with irradiation and substance. The last group showed very good results, it had the highest survival rates.
— You received an award from the hands of Academician Kaprin, who did you tell first of all about your victory?
— To my husband, daughter and parents. Everyone is very happy for me, congratulating and waiting.
— The grant you won involves a business trip to any international conference. Have you chosen which one?
— Not yet, but most likely I will go to the ESTRO Forum next year.
— We also congratulate you on behalf of all the readers of our Bulletin and wish you a successful life as a scientist, oncologist, wife and mother!
